Joanna Marion Scanlan (born 27 October 1961) is a British actress and writer. On television, she is known for her roles in The Thick of It (2005–2012), Big School (2013–2014), Puppy Love (2014), No Offence (2015–2018), Requiem (2018), and The Larkins (2021). She was nominated for three BAFTA TV Awards for Getting On (2009–2012), including two for Best Writing. Scanlan's film appearances include Girl with a Pearl Earring (2003), Notes on a Scandal (2006), The Invisible Woman (2013), and Bridget Jones's Baby (2016). She won the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance in the 2020 film After Love. She was the first person since 2003 to win the award without being nominated for the corresponding Oscar. Joanna Scanlan (* 27. Oktober 1961 in West Kirby, North West England) ist eine britische Schauspielerin und Drehbuchautorin. Joanna Scanlan studierte Geschichte am Queens’ College in Cambridge. Bereits zu dieser Zeit war sie schauspielerisch im Cambridge University Footlights Dramatic Club engagiert. Nach ihrem Abschluss war sie für acht Jahre als Schauspiel-Dozentin an Hochschulen tätig. Mitte der 1990er Jahre wurde sie als Schauspielerin für Film und Fernsehen aktiv. In der Sitcom Getting On spielte sie ab 2009 nicht nur Schwester Den Flixter, sondern wirkte auch an den Drehbüchern mit. Hierzu wurde sie zwei Mal von der Writers’ Guild of Great Britain ausgezeichnet und dreimal für einen BAFTA TV Award nominiert. Ab 2015 spielte sie die Teamleiterin Vivienne Deering in der Krimiserie No Offence. 2020 war sie in Film After Love zu sehen, für den sie für verschiedene Filmpreise nominiert und ausgezeichnet wurde, so im Rahmen der British Academy Film Awards 2022 als beste Hauptdarstellerin. Insgesamt wirkte sie in über 80 Produktionen mit.
