Robin Hood comes home after fighting in the Crusades to learn that the noble King Richard is in exile and that the despotic King John now rules England, with the help of the Sheriff of Rottingham. Robin Hood assembles a band of fellow patriots to do battle with King John and the Sheriff.

Robin von Loxley wird bei den Kreuzzügen unter König Richards Fahne gefangen genommen und ins Verlies gesperrt. Mit Hilfe eines arabischen Mitgefangenen namens El Niesreiz gelingt ihm die Flucht. Beim Abschied verspricht er ihm, sich um dessen Sohn Hatschi zu kümmern, der sich zur als Austauschstudent in England aufhält. Während König Richard auf den Kreuzzügen war, hat sich dessen Bruder, der kaltherzige Prinz John selber zum Alleinherrscher über England ernannt. Mit Unterstützung des skrupellosen Sheriffs von Nuttingham unterdrückt er das arme Volk und beutet es nach Strich und Faden aus. Als Robin zu seinem Schloss zurückkehrt, erfährt von Blinzler dass seine Eltern gestorben sind. Gemeinsam mit Little John und Will stellt er sich den reichen Emporkömmlingen.
