Il débute à 11 ans dans Shopping (2013), remportant le prix du meilleur second rôle aux New Zealand Film and TV Awards. Son rôle de Ricky Baker dans Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016), plus gros succès au box-office néo-zélandais, lui vaut le prix du meilleur acteur et une reconnaissance internationale.
