Bill Bixby was an American actor, director, and producer born Wilfred Bailey Everett Bixby III on January 22, 1934, in San Francisco, California. His career spanned more than three decades, during which he became well-known for a variety of television roles. Bixby achieved early popularity starring as Tim O'Hara in the CBS sitcom "My Favorite Martian" (1963-1966), and he later played the widowed father Tom Corbett in the ABC sitcom "The Courtship of Eddie's Father" (1969-1972). He was also recognized for his role as stage magician and detective Anthony Blake in "The Magician" (1973-1974). Bixby's most iconic role came in the late 1970s when he portrayed Dr. David Banner in the CBS science-fiction drama "The Incredible Hulk," a role he reprised in three television movies. In addition to acting, he directed numerous episodes of shows throughout his career. Bixby was nominated for three Emmy Awards. He passed away from complications of prostate cancer on November 21, 1993, at age 59. His enduring legacy is marked by his kind and compassionate portrayals and the versatility he brought to his work across television and film.

Bill Bixby spielte 1963 bis 1966 in der Serie Mein Onkel vom Mars den Reporter Tim O’Hara. Durch die Familienserie Eddies Vater (1969–1972) mit ihm in der Hauptrolle erlange er internationale Bekanntheit. Nachdem er 1973/74 in der eine Staffel umfassende Fernsehserie Der Magier Mordfälle gelöst hatte, erlangte er weltweite Bekanntheit durch die Fernsehserie Der unglaubliche Hulk, deren Pilotfilm 1977 erstmals in den USA ausgestrahlt wurde. Er spielte den Wissenschaftler Dr. David Bruce Banner. Von 1978 bis 1982 lief die Serie erfolgreich auf CBS. Nach der Absetzung der Serie 1982 wurde es relativ still um ihn. Neben Hulk spielte er noch 1976 in der Miniserie Reich und Arm den Schriftsteller Willie Abbott, der die Jugendliebe der Hauptfigur Rudy Jordaches Julie Prescott heiratet. Als Regisseur inszenierte er die drei Fernsehfilme über Hulk, die nach dem Ende der Serie gedreht wurden. Von 1971 bis 1979 war er mit der Schauspielerin Brenda Benet (1945–1982) in erster Ehe verheiratet. Sie hatten einen gemeinsamen Sohn namens Christopher (* 1974), der 1981 überraschend an einer Halsinfektion starb. Bixby starb im Alter von 59 Jahren an Prostatakrebs. Sein letztes Interview gab er zwei Monate vor seinem Tod. Bixby war zuletzt in dritter Ehe verheiratet.
