Judy Davis (born 23 April 1955) is an Australian actress best known for her roles in Husbands and Wives, Barton Fink, A Passage to India and in the TV miniseries Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows. Davis first came to attention for her role as the fiery Sybylla Melvyn in the 1979 film My Brilliant Career. She has won many acting awards, including two Golden Globe Awards, three Emmy Awards, one BAFTA and five AFI Awards. She has also been nominated twice for an Academy Award. Judy Davis (* 23. April 1955 in Perth, Australien) ist eine australische Schauspielerin. Judy Davis schloss 1977 ihre Ausbildung am National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney ab, wo sie gemeinsam mit Mel Gibson in einem Jahrgang studierte. Gemeinsam spielten sie in der Schauspielschule die Titelrollen in William Shakespeares Romeo und Julia. Nach ihrem Filmdebüt in Kohle, Koks & heiße Kurven (1977) wurde sie vor allem durch die Rolle der Sybylla Melvyn in Meine brillante Karriere (1979) bekannt. Mit diesem Film nahm sie am Wettbewerb der Internationalen Filmfestspiele von Cannes 1979 teil und konnte sich erstmals einer breiten internationalen Öffentlichkeit vorstellen. 1995 erhielt sie als erste Schauspielerin den Chlotrudis Award. Davis erhielt zwei Oscar-Nominierungen, als beste Schauspielerin in Reise nach Indien (1984) und als beste Nebendarstellerin in Ehemänner und Ehefrauen (1992), sowie 32 weitere Film- und Fernsehpreise. Zuletzt wurde sie bei der Primetime-Emmy-Verleihung 2007 für die Rolle der Joan McAllister in der Fernsehserie The Starter Wife mit dem Preis für die Beste Nebendarstellerin in einer Miniserie oder einem Fernsehfilm ausgezeichnet.
