Nick Marshall is a British-born visual effects supervisor at Industrial Light & Magic, originally from Huddersfield. He earned his BA (Hons) in Digital Visual Effects in 2009 from Teesside University. After graduation, he began his career at the entry-level position of runner in a VFX studio and steadily progressed through various roles, including matte painter, environment artist, and supervisor. Over the course of more than a decade, Marshall has built his career across a wide range of film and television projects, contributing to both major blockbusters and independent features, as well as theme park attractions and print work. His credits include contributions to the films Dune: Part Two (2024), Sinners (2025), and the critically acclaimed HBO series The Last of Us (2023-). As of around 2017, he has held leadership roles at DNEG Vancouver, serving first as Environment Supervisor from 2016 to 2017 and then as Head of Environments and Generalists from April 2017 onward. In his capacity as Digital Effects Supervisor (DFX Supervisor) at DNEG, he led the team responsible for crafting the lush, post-apocalyptic environments on The Last of Us. Marshall’s work on The Last of Us (2023) earned him and his collaborators the Primetime Emmy Award in 2023 for Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Season or a Movie. Beyond the award, Marshall has spoken about his personal journey into visual effects, noting that a teenage passion for both art and technology naturally led him into this creative field.
