Peyman Maadi (پیمان معادی) was born in 1970 in New York City to an Iranian couple. His father was a lawyer. Peyman Maadi's family moved back to Iran when he was 5 years old. He graduated in Metallurgical Engineering from Karaj Azad University. Maadi started his film career as a screenwriter in late 2000s. He is the writer of several famous Iranian films. Peyman Maadi started his acting career in Asghar Farhadi's film About Elly (2009). Two years later, he received the Silver Bear award for Best Actor in Leading Role for his performance as Nader in Farhadi's A Separation (2011) from the Berlin International Film Fest.

Payman Maadi (* 9. Juli 1970 in New York City, USA) ist ein iranisch-amerikanischer Schauspieler, Drehbuchautor und Regisseur. Er begann seine Karriere als Drehbuchautor und schrieb mehrere erfolgreiche iranische Filme, bevor er sich der Schauspielerei zuwandte. Seine erste große Rolle hatte Maadi in Nader und Simin – Eine Trennung (2011), für die er bei der Berlinale mit dem Silbernen Bären als Bester Hauptdarsteller ausgezeichnet wurde. Zuvor spielte er bereits in Alles über Elly (2009), einem weiteren Film von Asghar Farhadi. Später war er in internationalen Produktionen wie Camp X-Ray (2014), Last Knights (2015) und 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi (2016) zu sehen. Neben seiner Arbeit als Schauspieler führte Maadi auch Regie, unter anderem bei The Snow on the Pines (2012) und Bomb: A Love Story (2018). Er pendelt zwischen Los Angeles und Teheran und engagiert sich für verschiedene kulturelle Projekte. Seine Fähigkeit, tiefgründige und emotionale Charaktere darzustellen, hat ihn zu einem der angesehensten Schauspieler des iranischen Kinos gemacht.
