From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Diarmuid Lawrence (born 15 October 1947) is a British television director. Born in Westcliff-on-Sea in Essex, Lawrence began his career in 1978 as a production assistant on the BBC television drama Pennies from Heaven. Two years later he made his directorial debut with Play for Today. Lawrence's credits include Grange Hill, Anglo Saxon Attitudes, Minder, Casualty, Silent Witness, Little Dorrit, Messiah, and Desperate Romantics. In 1990, Lawrence's direction of Beyond the Pale won him the Golden Gate Award for Best Television Feature at the San Francisco International Film Festival. He also is the recipient of the British Academy Television Award for Best Drama Serial for Anglo Saxon Attitudes. Geboren in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, begann Lawrence seine Karriere 1978 als Produktionsassistent bei der BBC-Fernsehserie „Pennies from Heaven“. Zwei Jahre später gab er mit „Play for Today“ sein Regiedebüt. Zu Lawrences Regiearbeiten zählen unter anderem „Grange Hill“, „Anglo Saxon Attitudes“, „Minder“, „Casualty“, „Silent Witness“, „Little Dorrit“, „Messiah“ und „Desperate Romantics“. 1990 gewann Lawrence für seine Regiearbeit an „Beyond the Pale“ den Golden Gate Award für den besten Fernsehfilm beim San Francisco International Film Festival.
