Claire's race for town council comes to a head on Election Day as the Dunphys make phone calls for votes and Mitchell and Cameron take to the streets to campaign, while the candidate endures technical problems during some last-minute interviews.

C'est le jour des élections et Claire doit affronter quelques difficultés techniques. Cameron et Mitchell font campagne pour elle à bord d'un véhicule avec haut-parleur. Jay, en route pour aller voter, fait demi-tour en apercevant une ancienne aventure d'un soir. Pendant ce temps, Haley attend avec impatience sa lettre d'admission à l'université.

Gloria e i bambini provano a convincere telefonicamente potenziali elettori, ma non avranno molto successo; Mitchell e Cameron vanno in giro in auto con un megafono, ma finiranno con l'usarlo più per altro che per sponsorizzare Claire; Jay incontra al seggio una donna che aveva frequentato dopo aver divorziato e che è ancora arrabbiata con lui, pertanto alla fine non è sicuro nemmeno di essere riuscito a votare; Phil aveva in programma di accompagnare alle urne molti anziani che vivono nel suo quartiere, ma finirà col passare tutto il giorno insieme a Walt; Claire, che alla fine non sarà eletta, perde una capsula dentaria davanti a un giornalista, per poi essere ospite ad una trasmissione radiofonica senza riuscire a parlare normalmente. Tuttavia non mancheranno buone notizie: Haley riesce a venir messa in lista d'attesa in almeno un college e il giorno seguente Claire scoprirà che il consigliere Bailey ha finalmente acconsentito all'installazione del segnale di stop che l'aveva spinta ad intraprendere l'esperienza politica.
