When Eddie attends their annual baseball game date without Joy, they realize that they can have separate lives, but at what cost? Meanwhile, Ally and Doug try to save a tree but end up causing a tree disease epidemic in the neighborhood.

Joy kommt nach nur einer Woche im neuen Job an Eddies Schule zu Direktorin Carol Duffy, weil sie einen Tag frei nehmen will und lernt Miss Duffy von deren verrückten Seite kennen. Auch Eddie hat weiterhin Probleme mit seiner ehemaligen Schülerin, so verdonnert sie ihn zu einem Eltern-Lehrer-Gespräch, ausgerechnet an dem Tag, an der er mit Joy traditionell zum Baseball gehen will. Joy ist enttäuscht, denn gerade wegen dieses Spiel hat sie den Tag frei genommen, fügt sich aber in ihr Schicksal. Als sie am nächsten Morgen auch noch Zahnschmerzen hat und zum Zahnarzt muss, tröstet sie Eddie, da so ohnehin nicht zum Spiel hätte gehen können...
