When Allison's boyfriend Doug is hospitalized, she rushes to his bedside only to be surprised with a proposal. No one is more surprised by their daughter's engagement than Eddie and Joy who plot to put the brakes on wedding planning. Meanwhile, Kenny tries to get Eddie's car repaired without success.

Völlig überraschend steht Allison vor ihren Eltern und sie hat natürlich Doug mitgebracht. Aber auch eine gute Nachricht, sie darf für ein Semester ein Auslandsstudium in Paris machen. Eddie ist zwar strikt dagegen, weil er das ganze für zu teuer hält, aber Joy hat ein schlagendes Argument dafür, Ally trotzdem gehen zu lassen. In Europa, so erhofft sie sich, wird sie nette Jungs kennen lernen und Doug für sie in Vergessenheit geraten.
