Professional daredevil and white-suited hero, The Great Leslie, convinces turn-of-the-century auto makers that a race from New York to Paris (westward across America, the Bering Straight and Russia) will help to promote automobile sales. Leslie's arch-rival, the mustached and black-attired Professor Fate vows to beat Leslie to the finish line in a car of Fate's own invention.

En 1908, une grande course automobile est organisée : New York-Paris, via le Grand Nord, la Sibérie et l'Europe centrale. Le professeur Fate, personnage machiavélique, aidé d'un grimaçant acolyte, tient à gagner la course et décide de tout mettre en oeuvre pour empêcher la victoire de son principal adversaire, le grand Leslie. Six voitures prennent le départ à New York, au milieu d'une foule délirante. Une concurrente inattendue se présente, la journaliste féministe Maggie Dubois, toute de rose vêtue. Bientôt, les voitures du professeur Fate et du grand Leslie sont les dernières à concourir, et la suffragette est recueillie tantôt par l'un, tantôt par l'autre...

Agli inizi del 1900 due uomini, Leslie, un galante ed inappuntabile gentiluomo, ed il professore Fate, una mente ingegnosa ma diabolica, si stanno battendo in mille modi per aggiudicarsi il primato sportivo automobilistico. Leslie, sicuro di battere l'avversario, induce il direttore di un giornale americano ad organizzare un lunghissimo raid da New York a Parigi per ogni tipo di automobile. Il giovane vi prende parte con una vettura lussuosissima, tutta bianca, con maniglie in ottone e foderata di cuoio rosso, mentre il diabolico Fate, dopo aver costruito un'automobile nera capace di sollevarsi di due metri dal suolo per mezzo di un elevatore a pantografo e dotata di cannoncino, di pungiglione e di apparecchi per produrre cortine fumogene, vi partecipa con il fido Carmelo, come lui pronto ad usare qualsiasi mezzo.
