Jerry Goldsmith was an American music composer and conductor for film and television productions, best known for his scores of movies like "Planet of the Apes", "Papillon", "Alien", "Total Recall", "Basic Instinct", and also three "Rambo" films and five "Star Trek" films. He was nominated for six Grammy Awards, five Primetime Emmy Awards, nine Golden Globe Awards, four British Academy Film Awards, and eighteen Academy Awards (he won only one, in 1976, for the feature film "The Omen").

Jerrald „Jerry“ King Goldsmith (* 10. Februar 1929 in Los Angeles, Kalifornien; † 21. Juli 2004 in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles) war ein US-amerikanischer Filmmusikkomponist. Er gilt zusammen mit Komponisten wie John Williams, Bernard Herrmann und Henry Mancini als eine der bestimmenden Figuren der amerikanischen Filmmusik von den späten 1960er Jahren bis heute. Goldsmith, dessen „künstlerisches Potential vor allem […] durch die Filmbilder angeregt“ wurde, war trotz seiner weitgehenden Beschränkung auf die Filmmusik auch vielen Musikfreunden außerhalb der Filmbranche ein Begriff.
