Chris Smallfield is a visual effects supervisor at TRIXTER. He initially studied for a BFA in Computer Art at Savannah College of Art and Design, motivated from a young age by the visual wonder of early computer-animated films and inspired by a creative upbringing. Smallfield began his professional journey with roughly 6 years of experience in Los Angeles film and television production. After that, he relocated to Berlin, Germany, where he embraced his role as a multitalented 3D generalist and eventually transitioned into VFX supervision at the German studio TRIXTER. Over time, he has earned a reputation among colleagues as an "amiable creative powerhouse," affectionately nicknamed "Spaceman." Throughout his career, Smallfield has contributed to a broad array of high-profile films and television series across genres. His credits include working as CG Supervisor on Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and Captain Marvel (2019), among others. He later shifted into VFX supervision roles for series and films such as She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022) and Loki (2021–2023). On "Loki," he led the visual effects for Season 2 (2023). Beyond his film work, Smallfield has described himself as a generalist who enjoys touching many aspects of the VFX and 3D pipeline — from lighting and rendering to matte painting and compositing. He has also engaged in creative pursuits outside mainstream film: at various times, he has worked as a freelancer in Berlin and other studios, taught VFX at educational institutions such as The Animation Workshop in Denmark, and pursued personal projects including illustration, videography, and even developing a children's cartoon series. His personal interests include an extensive comic book collection, photography, and other forms of visual art. In recognition of his craft, Smallfield — alongside his VFX colleagues — received a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award in 2024 for Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Season or a Movie for his work on "Loki. That same work also earned a nomination for a Visual Effects Society Award (VES) in 2024 for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Photoreal Episode, for "Loki" Season 2 episode "Glorious Purpose" (2023).
