A quatre heures du matin, les experts font une pause durant leur service et s'en vont manger dans un restaurant où ils ont leurs habitudes, ouvert 24 heures sur 24. Ils y découvrent huit personnes tuées par balles : le frère du patron, la serveuse, quatre clients et deux inconnus. Vincent Demarcus, le patron, enfermé dans la chambre froide pendant le carnage, semble anéanti. Les soupçons des enquêteurs pèsent d'abord sur Ronald Basderic, un homme qui harcelait une des serveuses. Mais la découverte de l'identité des deux inconnus tués durant la fusillade fait progresser l'enquête dans une autre direction...
