The body of a long-dead murder victim is uncovered along with Lt. Provenza’s business card, setting off the squad’s search for his identity and killer. When the bullet is traced to a gang weapon that had been turned into the LAPD 15 years prior, Deputy Chief Johnson is forced to contend with political activist Father Jack.

Lors de travaux, un corps pratiquement embaumé est mis à jour. C'est le corps d'un jeune garçon de 16 ans, membre d'un gang, décédé pendant les émeutes de 1992 à Los Angeles. A la surprise générale, la carte de visite de Provenza est retrouvée dans la poche de son jean. Le garçon voulait informer Provenza de l'origine de certains coups de feu, mais avait disparu peu après. Un prêtre irlandais, connu pour son association d'aide aux jeunes délinquants, est pris dans l'étau de l'interrogatoire de Brenda, mais le sergent Gabriel va le défendre vigoureusement...

Questi aveva cercato di contattare il poliziotto in merito ad una sparatoria, ma era poi scomparso prima di poter parlare con lui. Brenda indaga su di un sacerdote che si occupa di un centro frequentato da ragazzi coinvolti con le gang. Il sospetto ha però uno strenuo difensore nel Sergente Gabriel. La Johnson deve inoltre occuparsi di suo padre che ha scoperto che lei e Fritz vivono insieme.
