Sur la planète Camus II, Kirk retrouve une ancienne amante : Janice Lester. Celle-ci, furieuse de n'avoir jamais pu atteindre le poste de capitaine, décide d'utiliser un appareil découvert sur Camus II, pour interchanger son corps et son esprit avec Kirk. Elle prend ainsi sa place.
