Un agent du MI-5 est démasqué et torturé dans une mosquée de Birmingham dont le mollah, Mohammed Rachid, est soupçonné d'activités extrémistes. Lorsqu'il est enfin libéré, gravement blessé, il est emmené à l'hôpital, où il révèle à Tom l'existence d'un groupe de jeunes kamikazes, le Nid des Anges. Ces très jeunes recrues, après un entraînement intensif, doivent servir de bombes humaines. Le MI-5 cherche le moyen d'en savoir plus : il faudrait envoyer un autre agent à l'intérieur de la mosquée, mais personne n'est disponible. Ibhn Khaldun, un agent algérien fraîchement arrivé à Scotland Yard, est finalement désigné. Il collabore en échange d'un passeport...
