A mysterious criminal steals a secret state-of-the-art time machine, intent on destroying America as we know it by changing the past. Our only hope is an unexpected team: a scientist, a soldier and a history professor, who must use the machine's prototype to travel back in time to critical events. While they must make every effort not to affect the past themselves, they must also stay one step ahead of this dangerous fugitive. But can this handpicked team uncover the mystery behind it all and end his destruction before it's too late?

Gangster Garcia Flynn stiehlt eine Zeitmaschine, um damit die Geschichte der USA zu ändern und das Land ins Chaos zu stürzen. Im Auftrag der Regierung wird daraufhin ein Team aus Spezialisten zusammengestellt, um den Kriminellen zu verfolgen und ihn aufzuhalten. Möglich wird das durch eine im Geheimen entwickelte Zeitmaschine der exzentrischen Unternehmerlegende Connor Mason. Mason weiß, was es bedeutet, wenn eine solche Maschine in die falschen Hände gerät und ist bereit, die Regierung zu unterstützen. Historikerin Lucy Preston, Kriegsveteran Wyatt Logan und Wissenschaftler Rufus heften sich an Flynns Fersen. Dabei müssen sie jedoch immer aufpassen, dass sie den Lauf der Geschichte nicht auch noch selbst ändern.
