L'ancien maire de Las Vegas, Oscar Goodman, échappe de justesse à un assassinat, au cours de l'inauguration d'un nouveau musée. Une femme de ménage est également retrouvée tuée dans la chambre d'hôtel d'un prince du Moyen-Orient. Les experts arrivés sur les lieux des crimes commencent à fouiller dans les archives de la ville pour comprendre les relations d'Oscar Goodman avec les habitants et s'il avait de nombreux ennemis. L'équipe commence à s'intéresser sérieusement à la femme d'un truand décédé. Elle n'avait pas été conviée à l'inauguration du musée.
