An axe murderer on death row is given a stay of execution just moments before it was to take place, on the grounds that there may have been tainted DNA analysis used at his trial. Now, without using any DNA evidence, the team must race against time and reexamine all of the physical evidence in the case, just as they get a call on a new double murder that looks suspiciously like the case they're working on.

Un criminel, condamné à mort pour le meurtre d'un homme et d'une femme, obtient un sursis. La cour suprême a eu vent de l'erreur de Valera et a demandé le réexamen de tout le dossier. Horatio et son équipe sont convaincus de la culpabilité du détenu et s'attachent à prouver de nouveau sa culpabilité en ne s'appuyant que sur des preuves non biologiques puisque leurs analyses ADN de l'époque sont remises en question. Se faisant, ils découvrent l'existence d'un complice qui, au cours des cinq dernières années, aurait continué à sévir.
