The Enterprise crew alters course to investigate the mystery of Terra Nova, a legendary Earth colony whose inhabitants mysteriously disappeared decades ago. But when they arrive, they confront descendents of the colonists who have become more alien than Archer could ever have imagined.

Terra Nova ist eine weit entfernte alte Erdkolonie, die von den Menschen gegründet wurde, noch bevor interstellarer Raumflug möglich war. Die Reise dauerte viele Jahre und die Kolonisten demontierten ihre Schiffe nach der Ankunft auf dem Planeten, um Grundmaterialien für ihre Kolonie zu gewinnen. Kurz darauf riss der Kontakt ab und seitdem hat man nichts mehr von Terra Nova gehört. Die Enterprise wird nun ausgesandt, um zu ermitteln, was den Kolonisten zugestoßen ist und ob sie vielleicht noch am Leben sind.
