A case involving a strange old man warning two scientists of events in the immediate future which come to pass (and the use of their experimental flash-freezing compound that does not exist yet) has Mulder believing that one of the scientists has come from the future to stop his own scientific breakthrough from becoming reality.

Die beiden Biochemiker Jason Nichols und Lucas Menand streiten gerade über Forschungsergebnisse, als ein alter Mann Lucas’ Tod voraussagt. Die beiden halten den Mann für übergeschnappt. Tatsächlich stirbt Lucas, und Jason wird nun des Mordes verdächtigt. Natürlich glaubt niemand die Geschichte von dem alten Mann – bis auf Special-Agent Fox Mulder. Er und seine Partnerin Dana Scully kommen einem merkwürdigen Wesen aus einer dreißig Jahre entfernten Zukunft auf die Spur.

Un scientifique est renversé par un autobus alors qu'un vieil homme venait de lui prédire l'heure exacte de sa mort. Mulder et Scully sont amenés à soupçonner l'un de ses collègues, Jason Nichols, qui aurait pu pousser John Menand sous le véhicule du meurtrier. Peu de temps après, un gardien puis un savant japonais sont retrouvés morts, comme congelés. Troublante coïncidence, Menand et Nichols menaient d'importants travaux dans le domaine de la cryogénie...
