While preparing to leave on a fishing trip, Martha Roberts, an erratic whistleblower who calls Pride her mentor, kidnaps him to help her locate a serial killer targeting young women in the Gulf of Mexico.

Tandis qu'il s'apprête à partir à la pêche, Pride reçoit la visite inopinée de Martha Roberts, une lanceuse d'alerte avec laquelle il a collaboré quelques années plus tôt. Elle semble avoir des informations sur la disparition inquiétante d'une quartier-maître. Martha pense en effet que la marine disparue est une victime d'un tueur en série sadique, surnommé « Mr Solitaire », qui enlève des jeunes femmes dans la région depuis une dizaine d'années. Devant le refus de Dwayne, Martha entreprend de l'enlever.
