Dave Skylark and his producer Aaron Rapaport run the celebrity tabloid show "Skylark Tonight". When they land an interview with a surprise fan, North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, they are recruited by the CIA to turn their trip to Pyongyang into an assassination mission.

Dave Skylark ist der Moderator der erfolgreichen Promi-Talkshow "Skylark Tonight". Doch er und sein Kumpel Aaron Rapaport, der die Sendung produziert, wollen höhere journalistische Wellen schlagen. Als sie erfahren, dass Kim Jong-un ein Fan ihrer Sendung ist, planen sie, ein Interview mit dem nordkoreanischen Machtinhaber zu führen. Damit würden sie in der Medienbranche endlich ernst genommen werden. Tatsächlich lädt sie der extravagant auftretende Diktator in sein Land ein und Dave und Aaron stehen vor dem ganz großen journalistischen Wurf. Doch dann tritt plötzlich die CIA-Agentin Lacey an die Freunde heran: Der US-amerikanische Geheimdienst sieht mit dem anstehenden Interview die Chance gekommen, die Kim-Dynastie zu stürzen und will die TV-Macher rekrutieren, um einen Mordanschlag auf den Diktator zu verüben...

Dave Skylark anime le talk‐show « Skylark Tonight » au cours duquel il interviewe des célébrités sur des sujets intimes. Alors que Dave et son équipe fêtent leur 1 000e épisode, ils découvrent que le dirigeant nord‐coréen Kim Jong‐un est un fan de leur émission, ce qui incite le producteur du spectacle Aaron Rapoport à lui proposer une interview. Cependant l’agent de la CIA Lacey propose à Dave et Aaron d’assassiner Kim pour faciliter un coup d’État. Ces derniers acceptent à contrecœur. Arrivés en Corée du Nord, ils s’apercevront que tout ne se passera pas aussi bien que prévu.
