The British economy is on the brink of collapse and if one more bank goes down the entire financial system will implode. Ros goes undercover in the City to flush out a dangerous international financier who wants to bankrupt the country. Suddenly, it is not just the economy, but Ros's life that is at risk.

Panique à la City. Alexis Meynell, un obscur financier ayant déjà spéculé autour des attentats du 11 Septembre, fait trembler les marchés boursiers en lançant des allégations anonymes. Sa prochaine cible : la Highland Life, une des plus grandes banques du Royaume-Uni. La banqueroute de l'institution pourrait conduire à un krach national, d'autant plus que l'économie britannique est au bord de l'implosion. A la recherche de preuves, le MI-5 envoie Ros sous couverture dans la structure de Meynell. Mais la méfiance de ce dernier complique l'infiltration. De plus, le suicide du patron de la Highland ouvre de nouvelles pistes, jusqu'à Moscou.
