Seit langem hat niemand mehr den exzentrischen Schokoladenhersteller Willy Wonka gesehen. Eines Tages gewährt der bizarr ausstaffierte Fabrikbesitzer fünf Kindern samt Begleitperson freien Eintritt in seine Fabrik - vorausgesetzt, sie besitzen eines der goldenen Tickets, die nach dem Zufallsprinzip in den Wonka-Schokoladentafeln verteilt wurden. Gegen jede Wahrscheinlichkeit findet der bettelarme Charlie das letzte Ticket und schon am nächsten Tag geht's los mit der abenteuerlichsten Sightseeingtour der Schokoladengeschichte.
